Tir rod ends help plz?
Okay, do you have the right equipment? I just did all my tie rods.
Two methods usually work.
1) Heat the stud up with a propane torch for about 3 minutes, then hit that stud as hard as you can with a hammer, dead on.
2) Buy a Tie Rod Separator Fork. $5 at any standard Lowes, Fleet Farm, Home Depot.... If you can't find it, you can rent one at Autozone / Advance Auto Parts for $30 (you get it returned when you return the tool).
they,ll charge you about 35.00 a piece to do the inner ones, then the alignment, but you saved a little on the two that you already did, good luck.
When you tried removing the inner tie rods, were you using the correct tool? There is a tool specially made to remove inner tie rods from the rack and pinion. If you weren't using that, maybe that's why you weren't able to take 'em off. As far as labor to replace them, prices vary among mechanics. One thing's fo sho, you wanna price around.
There's a problem here: if other front end components were damaged in the crash (such as control arms, balljoints, and whatnot), you might have a hard time removing/installing parts under there.
Your best bet is to price around at several independent shops. Hopefully they don't find that other parts need replacing as well.
