Outer Tie Rod question regarding driving?

I have a Dodge truck with about 20,000 miles and when I took it in for an oil change I was told I need my outer Tie-Rod changed because there's play in it. This part is on back-order with Dodge and when I asked if it's safe to drive-the guy told me that it should be fine-he just wouldn't drive it really fast down a bumpy dirt road. What?!? Do I need to be worried-is my whole tire going to come off and I'm going to end up in an accident? Is it safe to drive?

thanks.

If the steering is not extremely loos, then it will be fine. The parts on most car nowadays do not have grease fittings. They are maintenance free. Nothing to do but wait till it fails.

i had a dodge truck before1500 4x4 if you just bought it, with only 20 k miles on it obviously there is a mfg defect on it. to answer your question,i would replace it before you get into an accident or cause one
at 20,000 miles that part should still be under warranty, go back and have it checked by the dealer, don't take a lube techs word for it on this one. don't get me wrong i am a lube tech also but i think that his diagnosis could be a little off.
They have a complete range available for dodge truck tie-rod ends. chk out here: http://www.classicexportsindia.com/dodge鈥?/a>
Tie rod ends are pretty easy to replace on newer vehicles. Used to be you needed a pickle fork (ball joint separation tool). Any way, it should be fine till you get the new part in. I had a tie rod separate on me once, but it was my fault. I was young and I should not have been doing donuts. Tie rods tend to fail if they are not maintenanced. Might be worth it to buy a grease gun.
well shouldnt be hard to find at any parts store an dreally easy to unscrew it and screw back in

type into search box

go to autozone get one maybe 60 bucks or less might take hour and as for safe just depends on how loose it is or not but if it breaks you dont turn but the truck will go which every way it wants
