I went and got new tires today. I was going to get a new alignment, but they said I needed new tie rods first.. They showed me that when you shake the wheel it shakes and has a lot of play.. My friend said he would change the tie rods for me. I saw tie rod ends for sale- Is this what I need?
Or do they sell full tie rods, not just ends?
Thanks
Tire shop said I need new tie rods, does that just mean tie rod ends?
There are inners and outers, some have sleeves, some are on vehicles with a rack n pinion which have no sleeves. Less than .00001 percent of tie rods are same numbers, and who would inspect a car and send it to another shop to have re inspected, thats funny.

there are inners and outers... and a sleeve to adjust with.
it depends on what steering system your car has.
in a rack and pinion, the inners almost never go, because they are just rods with a ball type bushing on one end and threaded for the outer on the other.
on an old truck like mine, inners are practically the same joint just the rod they are on changes.
old truck type, may need inners, outers, drag link.
rack and pinion, should be just outers unless you broke something.
well first off it depends on the vehicle. pretty much same part. and you will definatly need an alignment after replaceing the tierods but as i always advise my customers have the vehicle checked at a regular repair shop. there may be other parts bad.
the ends R the tie rod. U have an inner and a outter, with adjustable sleeve between. can purchase seperately have to buy for the rite car.
The ends are the only things that wear out. It's a ball and socket joint and if left unlubricated, it will wear out. This ball and socket joint has a short shaft on it which threads into an adjuster. On the other side of the adjuster is another tie rod end. There's an inner and outer tie rod end on both sides of the car. These are what links the steering wheel/steering gear to the steering knuckle on the backside of the wheel. If they're worn, get 'em changed so your new tires won't start wearing abnormally.
you did not say the year or the millage but usually if one componant is bad it usually means none of them were maintained and all wear accordingly so yes do all the front end
