Change the break pad that still has 10% left in it? Change tie rod too?

2002 lancer with 110, 000 miles. The current break pad has about 10% left and occasionally does a mild grinding noise when breaking at 45 mi/hr above. It it necessary to change the break pads now or it is okay to wait for another few thousand miles

The front tire is a little shaky when car is up on the hydraulic shift (I don%26#039;t feel so when driving), and the mechanic said that inner tie rod needs to be changed. Is it necessary too? (I drive very carefully within speed limits)|||It%26#039;s probably best to do it all now rather than later. With the brake pads, once you wear through the remaining material you run the risk of doing more extensive damage. Once it gets to be metal on metal your rotors are probably done for and the heat created can cause damage to some of the other parts. If your tie rods are bad then you could be causing additional wear to your tires and if it starts to create a vibration it can wear other parts in the front end causing a bigger repair bill later.|||Your current break pads make a mild grinding noise. Right, the proper thing to do is wait, until the noise gets louder and then you can always turn your radio up so you don%26#039;t hear it.

As for the tie rod ends, no you don%26#039;t have to do that now but if they break when you are driving the 60mph speed limit and your front wheels point out to the opposite sides, you%26#039;ll wish you paid more attention to the signs.|||Both items effect your ability to control the vehicle, and should be changed.

Personally I like to change the brake pads at or before 20%, but that%26#039;s just

me. The tie rod end will get worse quickly and affect steering, tire wear

and general front end control.

If you are worried about price then take it to another place for a second

opinion.
