I slid into a curb during a snow storm and now, when I brake at a high speed (30 MPH+), I get a shuddering in the front end. I went to have my oil changed, and asked the mechanic to look at it. He told me the center link was loose (the tie rods loked fine, btw). Does it need to be replaced, or can one tighten it?

A loose center link would be due to a bad tie rod end. The center link is what the tie rod ends are attached to. If it is loose, the tie rods would slide in and out.
You probably bent a rim.
